History of the PBC Beekeepers and the Presidents

I know we are one of the oldest associations in Palm Beach County, but I do not know a lot of our history.  It would bee interesting to see and learn more about our history.  Palm Beach County Beekeepers Association was established in 1974 and that was long before we had cell phones and internet to share our bee pictures and club's history.   I would like to know more and need your help.

The intention of this blog is to create and paint/paste a history together, of clubs and…

A Quote by Albert Einstein

“If the bee dissapeared off the surface of the globe then man would only have four years of life left.” -Albert Einstein
While it seems many people are convinced Einstein said that quote above, I'm not totally convinced. Because, it's pretty common to attribute a quote to Einstein or someone else smart and important to make their point. Even if…

Paid 2022
A very profound article I read !

“Bees do have a smell, you know, and if they don't they should, for their feet are dusted with spices from a million flowers.”

- Ray Bradbury, Dandelion Wine

Honey is not simply just "bee sugar".

Did you know there are approximately 181 different substances contained in honey?

Those 181 substances are most likely a result of tens of thousands of bees landing on millions of flowers and bringing back little bits of material with them to mix in with the… Continue

New Screened Bottom Board

Just put my homemade screened bottom board under my hive!  Didn't do a hive check but on old bottom board and under top cover, only saw a few SHB.  The Better Beetle Blaster (BBB) traps I put in yesterday didn't have any signs of SHB.  I guess those first traps I put in a couple weeks ago did the trick.  Tomorrow I'll slide some sort of sticky board under the screened bottom board to see if anything shows up.

Bees coming are loaded with white pollen.  Upon entering the new screened…

I am wondering what others in the club do with the wax. Is there a fair market price that is established by the ounce in this area? Do the "big guys" sell it to Mann Lake, Dadant, etc? What do you do with yours?

Getting Started with a first hive or two

This is a shot at trying out this new website and its Blog Feature.  I guess I might be starting a blog topic or it might just go nowhere.

Does anyone have anything to share about their first hive or is anyone interested in getting their first hives started?

To start  a Possible Blog topic off.  I got my first Hive in May of 2012. Paid $350 for a deep and a medium delivered and setup by a guy from Homestead.  I knew nothing but was willing to start and learn. I fed my bees for…
