Dr. Jay Evans is the Research Leader at the USDA-ARS Bee Research Laboratory in Beltsville, Maryland. His research focuses on honey bee health, particularly the interactions between bees and the pathogens and parasites that affect them. Dr. Evans played a significant role in the Honey Bee Genome Project, contributing to advancements in bee breeding and disease diagnostics. He holds an AB in Biology from Princeton University and a PhD in Biology from the University of Utah. Throughout his career, Dr. Evans has received numerous accolades, including USDA awards for Early Career (2003) and Senior (2023) Scientist of the Year, the Eastern Apicultural Society's James Hambleton Award for Bee Research, and fellowship in the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Beyond his research, he mentors students and professionals and writes a monthly research column for Bee Culture magazine.
